Thursday the company unveiled the size 24,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 10E shoes they created for Igor Vovkovinskiy, the record holder for being the tallest man in the country. Reebok created a total of three pairs of the tennis shoes for Vovkovinskiy who said in a statement to the press that he had never owned more than one pair of shoes at a time before because of the enormous expense of having custom shoes created in his size.
The thirty year old Minnesota resident has had a total of sixteen surgeries to his feet over the past six years due to damage caused by ill-fitting shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. The foot surgeries have contributed to weight gain of four hundred and fifty pounds that has further impacted Igor's life,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. He is hoping that with the custom sneakers he will be able to get back down to a healthier weight,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"For so long it hurt to have shoes on," Igor said at the press conference where Reebok presented him with his custom shoes. "Every day I was in pain. I want to be active again and walk. I can barely walk two blocks now. Before,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I could walk two miles."
Earlier this year Vovkovinskiy had turned to social media networking in hopes of raising funds to buy a custom pair of shoes. When Reebok heard of his plight they stepped in and offered to create the sneakers free of charge,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Igor was flown to their Massachusetts headquarters in May to be measured and evaluated for the perfect pair of shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Igor also sat down with the company's design team to make sure that the shoes looked as good as they felt. The sneakers feature Igor's name on the front,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], back,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and soles along with the Tryzub Cross,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which is the Ukrainian national symbol. Igor says his favorite of the three sneakers is the one created in the Minnesota Timberwolves colors. He'll be saving those to wear to their next game.
Reebok spent five months creating the shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. They now say that they can create Igor a perfect pair of shoes within six weeks and he is welcome to ask for any color combination he can think of.
"I might have to get a polka dot pair," Vovkovinskiy said at the press conference. "Any special days for my mom, I'd wear those,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she loves polka dots."
