CELEBRITY ECLIPSE
Well, hello! It me again. Today is my first day aboard the Celebrity Eclipse. I went home on February 12th after finishing a great contract on the Celebrity Constellation. Adjusting to land was quite strange,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and that can be a topic for another blog entry, but overall it was nice taking a break from it all and seeing family and friends.
Now, back to the story on this particular gig. Everything changed on Monday when I was offered a last minute fillin spot on the Eclipse because the drummer on that ship was fired. Seeing how I had another contract lined up in May there was no sense in just hanging around in the states twiddling my thumbs waiting when I could be gigging,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], seeing more of the world, and getting paid, so it was a pretty easy decision three short weeks at home, here I am, back at it!
The Eclipse is a different class ship than my previous ship. It is what is called a Class ship,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which is the newest class of ships that Celebrity offers. In fact, this particular ship is the newest ship in the fleet, having its maiden voyage only last April. Currently it number one in the fleet,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and is a top ranking ship in a lot of different areas.
All I can say is WOW!! This ship is really nice. Some immediate observations:
The ship, being as new as it is, is so clean and fresh. Everything looks nice and welcoming. Nothing against the Constellation (which was built in 2003), but you just cant compare it to a higher class ship like the Eclipse. And basically brand new!
Big change for crew on this class ship is that we get our own rooms! Yes, you heard me right! No more feeling like a freshman in college having to share a tiny cabin with a roommate. I get my own place to relax and feel like a person Even though the room is about half the size as my old one (if you seen the pictures of my last room you wont believe how small this one is), its still nice to know that its my space. BiG life upgrade!
The mess (that a place where crew can eat) on this ship is much nicer here. It about the same kind of food that you would find on the Constellation, but the area is much cleaner and decorated nicer. It also much bigger, with three different sections of food and plenty of places to sit. There no segregated messes, everybody eats in the same place, which is the way I think it should be.
The theater is really nice! I just had my first rehearsal and the whole stage setup is wonderful. The band is all on risers in fixed areas, no sloppy floor setup. The sound on stage is controlled very nicely, meaning you can hear everything just fine, and it not too loud or muddy. I get my own monitor mix this time (and they have a REAL monitor by the way!!), my own click box next to me (meaning I don have to yell for someone to turn me up or down, I can just do it right there). I have to say,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I pretty impressed for the first day. It all being done the way it would be on land!
I feeling pretty excited about this contract, I got good vibes about ithis ship already. Now, its time for me to go try to find my way around the ship, as the layout is quite confusing at first!
