Arrested For Allegedly Punching School Principal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
The mother of a Stockton,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Calif. elementary school student is under arrest for physically attacking her son's school principal over a dress code violation.
Pami Gibbs, 29,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], allegedly punched Fillmore Elementary School principal Evangelina Ramos several times Monday morning,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], after Ramos told Gibbs' 9-year-old third-grader that he had to turn his shirt inside-out because it had skulls and crossbones on it.
"If you didn't know what to look for you'd never see a skull in there; that's a skateboard mostly what I see," the child's great-grandfather Bill Black told KTXL-TV.
Gibbs faces four charges -- two felonies and two misdemeanors, one of which is for a possible hate crime for causing "injury based at least partly on race,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," The Record of Stockton reports.
"There were some comments made about ethnicity, yes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," police told KTXL-TV. Gibbs is white,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Ramos is a Latina. The principal was taken to the hospital bleeding and sustained minor injuries.
Gibbs is being held on bail set at $134,000.
The attack broke out after weeks of stricter dress codes being implemented by Ramos,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], according to KTXL-TV. It has to stop. When a parent balks at a school policy, restating it and defending it is going to create more situations like this. I've gone round and round with a few over stupid rules that make sense only for the benefit of teachers but not the learning environment and thought I don't condone this particular person's attack,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I get it. I expect we'll see more of these if the tone doesn't shape up.
I see more and more administrators and less and less educators. I'm not interested in feeding their cattle raising with sending them more children. They need to be informed, no different than police officers that their support in legislature will be weighed by how they treated the parents who should support them.
I didn't send my kids to school to learn how to blindly follow rules but to learn how the world works and how to function within it. They were expensive and the kids looked sloppy by the end of the year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], since kids are kids and few could afford to replace all the shirts.
I'm pretty sure the school was making at least a few bucks off each shirt,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The plain polo shirts would have looked much better and cost a lot less.
I like the idea of helping kids not get picked on, but on the other hand I think there is something to be said for letting nature take it's course and allowing the kids who would pick on other kids to show their true colors. They grow up and go to school together for years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], maybe it is a good thing to let them see who each other really are. But I am not really strongly for one position or other on this. I think it would be interesting to see which kind of districts (socioeconomic status,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], types of communities) may possess more or less compelling arguments for the employment of uniforms.
The situation at home is the main reason we have the situations at school. It's not the teachers or the administrators. The current economic times are only making what's going in the public schools worse. They quit teaching spelling 5 years ago here because it is not on the test. They don't teach cursive here either. Even kindergartners are expected to go to school from 8 am - 9pm with 32 minutes for lunch with little to no recess. So sorry,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not on the test. Then they say all the kids are ADHD and try to medicate them because they cant sit still. OK. try this, drink half a bottle of nyquill (the old stuff,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not the new one) and try to learn a foreign language. Do you think anyone will learn anything with their head in a fog?
