Three days after frying fish,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
I vowed in the past not to fry fish in the house due to the stink,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. It's been so long that I cooked fish at home that I forgot my very own rule. Last weekend I browned some halibut steaks about the stovetop for 4 minutes before taking them outside about the grill.
The smell from four minutes of browning took about 72 hours to vacate the premises,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], despite leaving windows open and running the exhaust fan hood. The halibut steaks were delicious, but if there is ever a next time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I want many ways to maintain the smell away.
Being a Nebraska boy who didn't consume a lot of fish becoming an adult, I need the aid of Minnesotans who fry, broil, parbroil or cook fish more often. Surely you have this Fish-B-Gone thing down pat. Below are great tips from Chowhound,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I'm curious what you think is most effective.
+Soak the fish in milk for some hours before you decide to cook it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
+Put out a little bowl of vinegar for any day after,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. (One wiseguy then asked how to get eliminate the vinegar smell,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].)
+Create a masking odor such as making coffee or chocolate cookies,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Others suggest burning a citrus-secented candle,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
+ Try a Lampe Berger burner,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], however they are expensive. The burners start at $40,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the scents about $15. Sold locally at Stone Crop in Maple Grove and also on eBay.
+ Lavender oil. Run the exhaust fan for an hour after cooking fish. If you're able to remove the exhaust filter, wash it.
+ Febreze (Another wiseacre commented that if her house smelled like Febreze or cheap,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], scented candles, she would fry fish to eliminate it.)
Here's yet another tip from me: Cook fish at the time prior to the garbage truck arrives,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I made the mistake of cooking fish the day after garbage day,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
