Australian Broadcasting Corporation ABC,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
It's often said that women dress for women. But who or what do men dress for? And what should a bloke wear to make the best impression,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whether in business,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], socially or just at home? Is it even important to make an impression at all?
These are some of the questions Kathy posed in Two Pots and a Parma,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a regular segment with regional Victorian socialites Walt Collins and Neil Robbins,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Walt wearing casual wear - a distressed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], faux worn polo shirt,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], faded jeans showing off underwear brand name and sneakers. Neil,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], on the other hand,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], dressed in a way Kathy described as dignified - slacks and shirt tucked behind a jumper.
Walt (left) says Neil's dressing is indicative of him being a little older than Walt,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but Neil (right) argues it's far more professional than Walt's clothing. What do you think?
Neil says the divide between young and old can measured as the difference between the height of the pants. The younger you are,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the lower the pants,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and when you're into old age,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the pants are as high as they can go - only your armpits can stop them.
And what about the eternal trackies wearer? Is throwing on the first clothes you grab an indicator of confidence or low self-esteem? Is it acceptable to wear your grubbiest tracky-dacks and slippers outside of the house? Is it just in our culture to let ourselves dress like dags? Neil says it's a sign of respect for others if you make an effort to look neat and tidy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], especially if you're on a date.
